Did you know humans share a common ancestor with both chimpanzees and bonobos? So humans are closely related to both chimpanzees and bonobos, sharing 98.7% of the same genes.

Whilst we are closely related to both, this mini unit will focus on some of the differences and similarities we have with chimpanzees. By looking at our hands and feet we can start to see how well adapted we are to our habitats.

In this mini unit you will:

  • Compare your hands and feet with a chimpanzee
  • Explore how your hands and feet are adapted to do different things
  • Consider the importance of opposable thumbs
  • Consider these question to expand your learning
  • Review these reference images for context
