Shark Awareness Day
14th July 2026
Let's bust some myths
Sharks aren’t interested in humans as prey. They can tell the difference between human blood and fish blood – and fish blood is far more appealing to them. Sharks play a vital role in our ecosystems; without them, fish populations wouldn’t be managed properly. Despite the scary myths, sharks harm very few people. You’re actually far more likely to be hurt by a mosquito or a freshwater snail than a shark.
